Touch ID is an interactive touchscreen table designed to transform the monotony of airport waiting into something genuinely useful — entertainment, work, food ordering, and real-time flight tracking, all from a single surface.

Touch ID — airport terminal context

Brief

We arrive at the airport 2–3 hours early. That's a lot of idle time with nowhere to go.

Bookstores, cafés, duty-free shops, or scrolling through a phone screen — the options are limited. The brief: design something that genuinely entertains, without asking passengers to constantly check the departures board.

Research

90,000 flights depart every day. Millions of passengers — all of them waiting.

When a flight is delayed, waiting time grows with no structured way to manage it. Airports invest heavily in infrastructure, but almost nothing in the passenger experience at the gate.

What Touch ID replaces

Instead of checking the departures board every few minutes, Touch ID keeps passengers informed in real time — from the table surface.

Inspiration

The shape of the Touch ID is inspired by military aircrafts, making it perfect for use in reserved areas of airports.

On the other hand, as far as technology is concerned, Touch ID is inspired by the most innovative products on the market, such as the interactive tables of the Inamo restaurant (London), which allow customers to choose their menu directly from their table, or Windows Surface multitouch screens as in the photos below.

Outcome

Touch ID is an interactive table that allows you to make the wait at the airports more enjoyable and entertaining.

Touch ID has been designed to improve the waiting experience at airports. With this table, you can play, watch series or movies, continue working on your cloud service, or order food that will be delivered directly to your table. Thanks to the electronic reader you can scan your ticket and the table will keep you updated about the status of your flight at all times. It will also notify you to start boarding and the correct gate, as well will keep you updated in case of any possible delay or modification that your flight may suffer. Enjoy a unique waiting experience with Touch ID.

In addition, the table is equipped with two compartments with sensors that allow you to keep your hand luggage always monitored and protected. The table will also notify you when someone tries to move your luggage without your permission. Check below all available services.

Security

Your bag stays in sight. Motion sensors alert you the moment someone touches it.

CMF

3000-series aluminium alloy structure. Curved tempered glass top — durable and strong, with a premium finish.

The aluminium alloy provides superior mechanical characteristics over standard metals. The curved tempered glass upper surface delivers durability and strength — though at a considerable weight cost.

An alternative in carbon fibre composite achieves the same structural performance at significantly lower weight, with an equally premium surface finish.
